Malaysia Boleh Again!
It’s National Day tomorrow (but the Sarawakian girl in my office said it is not), and I read a news story that I would like to share with you all for your National Day celebration.
The title of the story is “Malaysian-born filmmaker’s work to show in Venice”. Cool? Well, one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals, the Venice Film Festival, is going to feature Malaysian-born filmmaker Tsai Ming Liang’s latest work entitled “I don’t want to sleep alone“.
Yeah! Boleh?! For your information, Tsai Ming Liang is based in Taiwan. He shot 8 films prior to the current one. All of them were not shot in Bolehland and none of his films were shown in our local cinemas.
To my surprise, “I don’t want to sleep alone” was shot in Malaysia with a mixture of Malaysian and Taiwanese cast and crew. But it does not mean that it will be shown in local cinemas. Tsai Ming Liang hopes the Censorship Board will approve the sexual undertones in the film so fellow Bolehlanders could ’see’ and be proud of what Malaysians have done.
Well, I am crossing my fingers and looking forward to visit my neighbourhood DVD joint.
