Internet Bandwidth at TM Point, Menara TM
Shags paid a visit to TM point at Menara Telekom (big blue building next to the Fed Hwy) yesterday to sort out some phone issues. “TM Point” is the rebranded, renamed, cool, sexy Kedai Telekom.
One of the better things about the new cool TM Point in Menara TM is that while they still make you wait forever to sort out a simple matter, they sort of make up for it by having several (maybe 15) computer terminals with broadband internet access for customers to use. As of 3:30 pm on 4/04/2006, at least 4 of the terminals could connect to the internet.

TM Point Menara TM with the free internet stations
Above each station, there was a sign stating that TM streamyx offers 2Mbps broadband. In order to test this claim, I ran a couple of internet bandwidth speed tests of the computer I was using.
Test 1: TM net’s own bandwith tester: Test wouldn’t load
Test 2: CNet bandwidth test – 227 kbps
Test 3: Bandwidth Place test – 142 kbps

2 mbps broadband? not anywhere near.

Last week my bandwidth dropped to 200-400kbps. Quite sad..Ive been using streamyx for about 5 years and after I got upgraded to 1mb line i enjoyed
700-800kbps bandwidth…til last week. Quite disappointed in streamyx..
providing broadband for the masses is good for the country i agree…but
come on lah…what happened to the service ? im gonna opt for other services
